You’ll take a vision exam and a computer based 2 part test.
Once you have earned your learner's permit, you must follow these rules
A licensed driver 21 or older must be seated beside you alert and ready to assist at all times.
You may not hold a cell phone while driving except in a driver emergency. The vehicle must be lawfully parked or stopped to hold the phone.
No headphone use while driving.

Must be 15yrs 6mo to apply.
A learner's permit lets you drive a vehicle when a licensed driver is seated beside you.
The licensed driver must be at least 21 years old, or 18 years of age or older if they are your legal guardian or sibling. They must be alert and able to assist you.
You may drive with your learner's permit without a licensed driver if you:
Hold a valid Virginia Driver Training Certificate (DTS B), signed by a parent or legal guardian, showing completion of the classroom and behind-the-wheel portions of driver education
Are at least 16 years 3 months old, and
Have held your learner's permit for nine months
Driver's License
To earn your driver's license you must
Drive with parent at least 30hrs during daylight and 15hrs after sunset
Successfully complete a Driver’s Ed course

Behind the Wheel (only after completing the classroom component) - 7 days, 50 minutes of driving and 50 minutes of observation each day
Have your Learner’s Permit for 9 months
